Describe a typical day at work for you.
My mornings often start with reviewing emails. It helps me to then draw together a plan of action for the day ahead by listing the key tasks which need to be processed as well as the expected timeframes for completion. This helps because often I am
running with numerous tasks simultaneously and can better track each one as they progress. After this, my Team and I will usually head to the Bridge where we make a drink and check in on each other. Other day-to-day tasks often include liaising with clients and external parties, assisting team members where needed, and attending and taking minutes at board meetings.
What do you like about working for Crestbridge?
The Culture. My Team and I share a relationship which inspires us to provide a great service for our clients and I think that also, working for a company which fosters and nurtures the professional and personal development, learning and growth of its employees is what makes Crestbridge stand out. In my experience, Venture Debt/ Private Equity is very fast paced which can mean that there is a lot of excitement and reward that comes with the job as well.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to work as an administrator?
To take an interest in your work. This can look like doing a bit of extra reading on and around a subject which you might have come across in your day-to-day and are not very familiar with, or even attending industry-hosted seminars where specialists share and discuss their thoughts on the various and ever-changing landscapes which surround the environment in which we work. In this light, Fund Administration affords a great deal of exposure and
opportunity to engage with the various functions which look to support a Fund in its carrying on
I’ll start my morning by grabbing a coffee from The Bridge, I then set up for my day by sorting through my emails and getting together a to do list. The admin team and I then have a quick meeting to discuss priorities, see where we can assist each other and reassess workloads. Then it is time to get stuck in. No day is ever the same, which is why I love my role. The tasks throughout the day can range from holding board meetings to approve an acquisition or incorporating a new company. Thought the day we work with a lot of the internal teams such as our onboarding team or the payments team, who are all very helpful and friendly.
I would say the progression opportunities and the work like balance. Crestbridge offers so many opportunities for you to develop professionally and personally, there are so many training resources which allow you to develop your skills. Crestbridge is also very supportive of professional qualifications and there are a lot of people in the company that are studying at one time – so you never feel alone! The work life balance Crestbridge encourages is great! All employees are offered ‘Wellness days’ as well as ‘summer hours’ and ‘winter hours’ where we are encouraged to finish early one day a week to enjoy time with our family and friends.
I would say to be open minded and talk to people! It is a fast-paced role, but it opens you up to so many
opportunities as we offer services to so many varied companies. It is a really great role to start in if it is your first job in finance.
A typical day for me includes checking any emails to ensure I am always on top of what is happening and prioritise my workload to ensure urgent tasks are completed first. This also includes liaising with my line manager to ensure which tasks need to be completed by a certain deadline will be done in time.
The confidence that my Crestbridge team have in the work that I provide and in my development process. An atmosphere where everyone is always happy to help with any issues.
My advice for a trainee accountant would be to make sure you take your exams at your own pace. There can be times where workloads and studying can be stressful, so just make sure not to take on too much at once. But I would highly recommend taking the ACCA qualification, as this will help the most with your role.
I would usually start my working day by completing whatever tasks I have on. This could vary from setting up board meetings for the companies that I administer, speaking to clients, or liaising with different service providers from banks to investment managers to ensure our client's wealth is being looked after in the best possible way. If you catch me in the summer months, a typical working Wednesday would end with one of the Crestbridge Lions' Corporate Softball games!
Working at Crestbridge has many different things to like, whether it's the amazing people that we work with, or the newly refurbished offices and the amazing Bridge collaboration space. Crestbridge really cares about its employees and their progression. The sports and social side of the company is also a big attraction, there are always new initiatives and events including the Crestival summer party!
Asking questions is the best way to find out how the industry works. At Crestbridge, everyone is happy to help where they can. Anyone you speak to will give you their time to answer questions, however silly you may think they are.
